What printer does Cody Wilson use
« on: January 23, 2013, 03:19:00 AM »

Greetings:
Cody seems to be having some success, so I was just wondering what printer he uses?

I am wondering the same thing. Also, what size and type of filament does he use and what size is the nozzle?
I am looking to build a 3D printer but there are so many out there to choose from. I want one that can print these AR parts DEFCAD has for download.

I have now gotten to the point where I want to make a FAQ thread of stuff everyone wishes Cody would reveal for public knowledge. Printer model, resolution, where they get the filament or resin, etc.

That is a great idea!

My first question is where can we get stuff like screws and nuts, the stuff we cant make?

and second question is, How long will an ar-15 printed mag last?

Ah yes, here is a screw that works with the coupler you were asking about:

http://www.boltdepot.com/Product-Details.aspx?product=1364

How long printed AR mags last is currently unknown. The new Cuomo variants should be available soon and from there it will be up to anyone with the time and money to fire tens of thousands of rounds with one to get an idea.

My question is, will there eventually be a downloaded version of an extended mag for a Saiga variant of the AK-47 in 7.62X39mm?

He was using a Stratasys 3d printer until they found  out he was doing with it and demanded he return it. I believe he was leasing the 3d printer from them. Not sure current printer he is using.

40-round AK mags are in the works: http://defdist.tumblr.com/post/41248288213/40-round-printable-ak-mag-is-this-as-much-fun

Not entirely sure, but I would speculate it would be under $20 worth.

It looks like a section on DefCad that describes aspects of tried and tested files - including whether ABS or PLA is ideal or how much filament is needed, etc.

I was invested in both SSYS and DDD, until I found out about that.  Now, it was easy to exit my SSYS position, since it was at a profit.  My profit would have been better if I had waited longer, but that is OK.

I  have sort of allocated my DDD/SSYS profits towards actually buying a 3d printer.  Guess which companies I will avoid?

you should check out the Formlabs "The Form 1" I think that this will give the best results for printing firearms at the lowest cost.

The general misconception is that any statute passed by legislators bearing the appearance of law constitutes the law of the land. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and any statute, to be valid, must be In agreement.

That is a more appropriate size.  The build volume of the Form 1 is only 4.9 x 4.9 x 6.5 inches and probably too small for many DEFCAD applications, both present and future.
