      • True. Not sure what their time to in stock will be, but for one or two I’d prolly go for wolff gunsprings, but if you were going to make a bunch I’d prolly get ‘em from Brownell’s. Once you have the mag (minus spring) it’s still a 30rnd mag and grandfathered…assuming any ban as a grand fathering….and spring later. Brownel’s also has a nice discount for C&R FFL’s

  14. Question-

Why not build an extender that you could fix onto the bottom of a 10 round magazine with epoxy?

The floor plate retaining tabs would need to be cut off, but the design has some advantages:

    - Factory metal feed lips
    - Perfect mag-well fit.
    - Faster print time.
    - Factory follower can be used.

Thinking through it, I would eliminate the floor plate and just epoxy the extender onto the bottom of the factory 10 round mag with the follower and spring pre-inserted, curing overnight with a couple of clamps holding them together.

    • Your drawing would have to be pretty accurate down to pretty small details to work. I believe some of the tolerances would need to be <1mm to be accurate enough to likely work.

  24. Magpul PMAGs sell like hotcakes and are very hard to find right now. This appears to be a very promising alternative. How much does it cost in feedstock to fabricate each magazine?

  26. Ok question: If these magazines only last a certain amount of rounds before failure, could a spring-wrapper be made that one could wrap wire around that could give an approximately similar amount of rounds for its lifetime, too? Thereby eliminating the need to have to buy special springs, and being able to use easily obtained wire (like from a tractor-supply store, for instance)?

  46. When I try to print on a Makerbot Replicator it keeps starting just a bit too high every time. But when I try a different file of mine it works just fine. Any reason these files would print incorrectly on a makerbot replicator like that?

    • Solidworks has issues with making STLs which I assume these guys used to generate their STLs. Just run them through Netfabb or meshlab and repair and you should be good to go.

  49. If one of us could somehow effectively produce a way to use a system like:
    http://www.brownells.com/magazines/rifle-magazines/magazines/ar15-m16-l5-advanced-warfighter-magazines-prod44810.aspx?ttver=2&avs|Action%20Type_1=Semi-Auto&avs|Cartridge_1=AKK_5xzzx56%20mm%20NATO
then we could modify the body design in a manner that would accept the addition of metal feed lips which would in turn produce better cycling, as well as greater reliability and strength.

  55. When opening the file in solidworks, it just gives me a STL graphic. I can’t measure it and/or edit it like I could the last magazine you guys uploaded. Ideas? Is this intentional? I want to make another magazine coupler that fits the Cuomo.

  57. How hard would it be for you to UPSIZE this to fit an AR10 in 7.62x51mm/Winchester 308?

I would be VERY interested in getting such a file!.

Also…Can you provide files in AutoCAD DWG format (version 2004 prefered but can convert 2008 and 2012).

  60. Please note this design will also allow for the standard rectangular spring or a 23/32 inch / 18.263 mm utility compression spring found at most hardware stores. More testing needed on the round compression spring however.

  61. So. Just sliced and tried printing this and it is setup in a “feed-lips” down orientation. This results in it trying to print the rest of the magazine beyond the feed lips with nothing below it… Is it possible to flip the thing over and print from the baseplate side up?

  73. Yeah I downloaded the full mega pack and the v4.4 mag file inside is older than the previous one I downloaded. Can we get a straight download for the latest mag file? I have been keeping up with this and testing them direct in my rifle and want to keep in step with this. Thanks.

  74. I suppose then the v4.4 is “newer” than the 4.3 even though it is dated the same as my version 3 files? Perhaps a changelog would help keep us informed of developments with the files so we can understand the reasoning. Just a thought.

Thanks for clarifying. I just didn’t want to waste the time and material to build a magazine that was the same as my previous download.

  77. I have downloaded the Mega Pack several times intending to open the files with SolidWorks 2013. Is there an assembly file available for the complete 30 round AR magazine? It looks like the floor plate is missing from the list. Also Mag parts are missing some features shown in the display picture at the top of this page. Any help is greatly appreciated

  79. I cant slice any of the files you guys make, they have too many triangles and they make the slicer think there are holes. is there any way you can upload a lower poly count version of this mag?

  81. hey guys, i’m new to this whole 3d printing, thing, but figured it was time to give it a try. I’m wondering though, how do i set this mag up to print? I’ve tried with the “rafts and supports” on, for the over hangs, but that just made the entire thing pretty much solid. any ideas how to handle the over hangs? thanks gang.

  82. Are you using Slic3r to open the file? I cannot get Slic3r to see it properly and when open up in solidworks or netfabb it doesnt measure properly.

    Any ideas?

    • Not sure why GLC_Player could not load the file. Tried FreeCAD and was able to load the file and to convert the file to an STL file that GLC_Player could successfully read. Strange …

  83. how can the government restrict this, this is not a weapon and its not illegal to have cad drawings of anything. we are now living in a police state.
